WEM Superbass 30 Reviews 5

$300. I wanted a valve bass amp that drove a classic single 15" speaker with lots of warmth.

If you are into vintage gear, these amps are something of a secret. WEM was used extensively by Pink Floyd in the late sixties and early seventies (look at the sleeve of Umma-Gumma)before WEM went out of production. This is a no-nonsense bass amp. 2 channels each with hi and lo impedance, bass and treble and treble-boost. The sound is warm, and it really kicks for a 30 watt amp.

The down-side is that the cab is quite large, and if you are into effects there are none.

Construction is solid, with black and silver finish. I've lugged mine all over for years now, with no problems.

As a vintage bass amp I feel it out-performs most units. It is not as bulky as the Vox AC-50, and has a suprisingly tight sound for a single 15. To me this is still the ultimate vintage bass amp.
